Season’s Greetings

Thanks for supporting Artin’ Geelong in 2013! I am excited about the future of the Geelong art scene. I have watched it develop over the past three years with new galleries and artist run initiatives – even the new local brewery, Little Creatures, has got on board with a wonderful new exhibition space.

When I started the blog, it was hard to find information about artists and exhibitions around town but times have changed – now you can find information on Facebook and various ‘what’s on’ websites. Of course the Geelong Arts Bulletin has always been a useful guide but now even the football obsessed Geelong Advertiser runs the occasional feature on artists in our region in its GT magazine. A few of the Addy’s journalists follow me on Instagram – I am proud to be a good source of stories for them.

Although the need for this little blog may not be as necessary as it once was, I still intend to continue documenting the Geelong region’s art scene. I have applied to study at university next year (art, of course, at Deakin) so hopefully my new found knowledge will enhance the quality of blog posts. I have plans to expand our guest contributor base and introduce some art criticism into the mix with exhibition reviews but we’ll see how things pan out.

I would like to wish you a fun and relaxing holiday season and all the best for 2014. I look forward to bringing you more artist profiles and stories about the visual arts in our region in 2014. And keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook for quick updates.
